The project “Wanderlust Skardu Baltistan” was conceived, organised and implemented by the Annemarie-Schimmel-Haus (German Cultural Centre Lahore) (ASH) in collaboration with the University of Lahore’s School of Creative Arts (SoCA). It is the first part of a series of events under the headline “Wanderlust Pakistan” which aims at highlighting the cultural and ethnic diversity of Pakistan.

The Annemarie-Schimmel-Haus, the German cultural centre in Lahore, is a cultural institute which was established in 2003 for the purpose of promoting the bilateral dialogue between Pakistan and Germany through an extensive German language programme as well as through cultural events which it organises on a regular basis in the fields of literature, theatre , music , fine arts and film. The Annemarie-Schimmel-Haus  is  a partner of the Goethe-Institut Pakistan and is housed together with the French cultural centre, the Alliance Francaise de Lahore.

Salman Rashid

Fellow of Royal Geographical Society, Salman Rashid is author of nine travel books The Apricot Road to Yarkand, Jhelum: City of the Vitasta, Sea Monsters and the Sun God: Travels in Pakistan, Salt Range and Potohar Plateau, Prisoner on a Bus: Travel Through Pakistan, Between Two Burrs on the Map: Travels in Northern Pakistan, Gujranwala: The Glory That Was, Riders on the Wind and Deosai: Land of the Giant. He is the only Pakistani to have seen the North Face of K-2 and trekked in the shadow of this great mountain. His work – explorations, history, travels – appears in almost all leading publications of Pakistan and on his blog http://odysseuslahori.blogspot.com/.

André Hörmann

André Hörmann was born in 1975 in Bremen, Germany. He studied political science and economics at the Humboldt University in Berlin und moved on to study film at the renowned HFF Potsdam-Babelsberg. André Hörmann lives in Berlin and works as a documentary film maker. He teaches as visiting faculty at the University of Ulm.
He has been working since 2006 for German TV and cinema. His films, among others „Umbruch“, „Calcutta Calling“, „Drei Leben Hanoi“ und „Father’s Prayer“, have been screened and awarded at international festivals. He has been to Pakistan several times and on invitation of the Annemarie-Schimmel-Haus conducted a documentary film workshop in Lahore during 2014.

Muhammad “Zeeo” Zia

Muhammad “Zeeo” Zia is a lecturer at the  University of Lahore’s School of Creative Arts (SoCA) where he teaches Documentary Making and photography. He has completed his thesis with distinction with a short film “Shupun Khick  – The Last Of The Wakhi Shepherdess”. Zeeo hails from Gojal in Hunza and worked as the cameraman on this project. He also worked with André Hörmann in editing the film clips for this blog.
